SAFETY AND HEALTH PROGRAM

Our Safety & Health Program focuses on management systems that minimize risk, improve compliance and realize continuous prevention of injuries and losses. These systems include quality workplace shift inspections, mobile equipment operation and maintenance, new employee orientation training, pre-job meetings, ready-mix driver training and jobsite safety. Our safety and health professionals are routinely present at each of our business operations.

The Safety & Health Program includes processes for:

•repair and maintenance and record keeping audits

•management system audits per Company Standard Practice Instructions

•post-incident and near-miss investigations

•application of control strategies for industrial hygiene exposure

•hazard recognition and inspection training via plant and regional Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) committees

New miner training is being improved through the development and presentation of the New Miner Training Supplement. The Office Ergonomics Program is an ongoing training process that assists in identification and prevention of musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) injuries. Phase two of the Office Ergonomics Program began in August. Our newsletter, The Safety Edge, is published and distributed monthly as a written communication tool to provide consistent safety and health messages. The goal of the Company and Division management team is zero injuries and zero incidents. Our objective is to assist in continuous improvement as we move toward and achieve this strategic goal.
