OPENING OUR DOORS TO OUR NEIGHBORS
During Fall 2010 in Arizona, Vulcan Materials collaborated with the Arizona Rock Products Association (ARPA) and other industry members in the West Valley to host an informative aggregate plant tour for the Sun City, Ventana Lakes and Coyote Lakes Communities.
For the first time in the Sun City area, we opened our facilities for guided bus tours. Informative materials were made available, as company employees gathered with over 60 community residents at the Ventana Lakes Yacht Club.
Visitors were welcomed into the plant and given the opportunity to see where and how the building materials were produced for their communities and how the materials add to the quality of their lives locally. Visitors learned about the process of producing aggregates, ready mixed concrete and asphalt and were encouraged to ask any questions as the bus made its way through the plant.
Vulcan's District Operations Manager, Eric Weech, directed the tour of our Sun City facility carefully explaining production methods and the industry's stringent environmental and safety practices, as well as answered additional questions from participants.
Weech said, "The vision for the event was to outreach to neighboring communities and invite dialogue and understanding about our industry. This West Valley tour allowed us and our neighbors to get better acquainted."
