BRINGING THE COMMUNITY INSIDE

The West Region offers opportunities for visitors to learn by touring our facilities. During these visits, we strive to provide balanced information and educational opportunities relating to earth science for students and adults.

During our tours, the focus is on the use of minerals in society with particular emphasis on aggregates mining, production and applications to daily life. We show how aggregates are produced and why they are the critical component in all construction, necessary for the building of all roads, highways, bridges, dams, bridges, churches and all residential and commercial construction.

We offer tours to students who are studying minerals and geology, whether in grade school, high school or college. We consider our sites to be "outdoor classrooms" and work with our local school partners, as part of our Partners in Education program, to provide field trips to our sites, including transportation, when school budgets are limited. We also offer tours to community and professional organizations.

In 2012, our facilities in California and Arizona sponsored 24 tours with nearly 2,200 visitors to our sites.
